Scholars Report on Talon

Written by Kimberly Elias

The Talon is UME Prep’s online newspaper completely written by students and read by students. It was recently created and now is worked on daily. All of the features, opinion, news, sports, and entertainment articles and pictures are taken and written by fellow students.

The great thing about the Talon is that it allows student journalists to shine through with their creativity. However, not everyone was bound to be a writer, so how do the journalists themselves enjoy the Talon? Do they read it online to keep up with school and worldwide news or only look at it in their journalism class?

UME Prep Junior Melissa M. says, “I read it to see what UME students are thinking about.”

Since the Talon does have opinion articles that get featured, students have expressed their thoughts. Examples of topics of articles are protesting, vending machines in school, presidents, and school work.

UME Prep Junior Sarah H. said, “It’s great and I love reading the articles because all of the writers are talented.”

Only the best articles submitted weekly are published online after going through editing from the original author and editors, who are also fellow students.

“I don’t ever read it, but I enjoy writing for it,” says UME Prep Junior, Callie. She has in common with a lot of writers here who don’t keep up with the news but occasionally view it when their article is published.
