Celebrating a Day Alone: Single Awareness Day

Written by M.Mendoza

February 14 is a day we celebrate time together with our significant others; yet, there are many of us who don't have someone special to spend this day with. Some solutions to this problem is to spend time with family or friends. Others have found a new way to celebrate themselves on Single Awareness Day.

The acronym  S.A.D. for this day is pretty ironic since it tends to imply that those who partake in this day are sad or depressed, but many people can agree this is just a humorous holiday which helps relieve some of the stress single people may encounter.

While some may laugh, others aren't as understanding and many news networks have already come out with negative comments and stories about Single Awareness Day. Regardless of all of this, single people will continue to celebrate it.

An ebates survey concluded that 4% of customers are going to be sending flowers to themselves which may sound crazy or maybe even sad, but when you are your own own significant other it may not be so crazy after all. Many people also tend to spend time with other single friends and have a day out as they celebrate their independence from any restricting relationship.

In the end we must all do what is good for us and what makes us happy whether that be spending time with a significant other, or spending some quality time to yourself. Single Awareness Day is a holiday meant to bring humor and happiness to many people who couldn't celebrate Valentine's Day with a special someone, which is what makes this holiday truly special.
