Something Note-Worthy

Week Eight

Hey, everyone! Taking notes are a big skill to learn earlier rather than later, as it is a HUGE part of school, college, and beyond. These are a few ideas to help you keep to the basics.

  1. When taking notes in class leave a few pages in the front to make a table of contents. This will make it 100 times easier at the end of the year to study from  once you have a full notebook.

  2. If your teacher is teaching from a PowerPoint, don't copy every word on the slide. Instead, listen carefully to the teacher and write down the main words. Think simply, as in "subject" and "verb". Fill in the blanks with simple words to make sure you remember what you wrote.

  3. Study your notes within 24 hours of making them. You will remember it much better for the test and you can format your notes, if necessary.

  4. If the teacher says something you're confused on, write down your question. Ask the teacher at the end of class, look it up after class, or discuss it with your parents and friends, and make sure you understand. Never be afraid to ask a question!

  5. Finally, organization makes your life so much easier and it helps you study. If necessary, use the Cornell way to section your notes. Simply divide your page into three parts: a medium sized section at the bottom of the page, a small section to the left of your page, and leave the large right section for your notes. See the diagram to the side to see specifics.

Notes can be hard to keep, especially when you're trying to study. But with these T.I.P.S., you can surely go far in life!
