Robotics Team Soars

Written by Jordan Alexa

UME Prep FTC robotics team, “Prototypes”, has recently been given an opportunity to advance to Super Regionals following their high marks in competitions locally. This comes as a huge honor for not only the team, but also the whole school as this is a huge accomplishment. The team is comprised of 7 students ranging from 8th grade to 12th grade.  After only 3 years of even having a robotics team our school is making huge leaps in the robotics world. As a school we have hosted tournaments, won multiple awards for many different achievements, and now have made it to traveling to try to represent the school in the at Super Regionals two years running.

This week the Prototypes team boarded a flight to Georgia in hopes of claiming the top spot which would advance them into World’s competition.  One of the FLL robotics team's coach, Amanda Appel, shared her excitement for the Prototypes team saying, “I am so excited for this team, and how far they’ve come. They have put in many long hours and small details that set them one step higher. This team is not only worried about their own success, but have contributed to the success of the younger teams such as First Lego League on campus.”

No matter what happens at this competition, we are so proud of them for making it this far along with all of the other teams. We are continuing to grow as not only a school but also as a robotics department so we can only continue to grow and come up with new advancements and support to better enrich our process. To continue supporting the teams our school has come up with creative fundraising ideas, after school concessions, and even creating prizes for total amounts raised. Congratulations to the team's and all of their hard work. Go Eagles!
