Out of all the popular apps that were out in 2016, Snapchat just had to be number one.

Despite their rough start, like so many other apps, Snapchat has made it viral.

Snapchat was created by Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy. Murphy came up with the idea after regretting a picture he sent to someone. Wishing that the photo would've just vanished after the person saw it,  Murphy figured there had to be a better way, and so Snapchat was born.

It wasn’t until July 2011 Snapchat successfully launched. Almost over 60 million snaps were being sent in one day by multiple teens; which meant cha-ching for Spiegel and Murphy.

Teens aren’t just using the app anymore, many older people are starting to use to it as well. Famous people are also using Snapchat to let their fans be aware on their daily lives. I mean, who wouldn’t download the app with all the new features it has, and the filters?

As much as this app sounds amazing, it also has some drawbacks. Most people spend around 30 minutes or more on the app everyday, which is a great amount of time considering the other things you could be doing.

“I spend a good amount of time on Snapchat,” UME scholar Carolina Sanchez says, “mainly because of my streaks.”

Snapchat is definitely on the rise. Let’s see if it continues in 2017.
