UME Boys Soccer Kicks Off the Season

Written by Dark Blue

The first game is normally the worst game of the season. You can only get better from there, with more practice and learning. The boy’s team is able to use this loss as a learning experience. They can go and practice what is needed and fix what didn't work well, before the next game. “I never lose, I either win or learn,” says John Williams.

Though they lost the game, the boys are thinking ahead to the future. They are starting to fix the things that weren't working. Such as, being more concise with passing the ball, not doing handballs, attacking better and faster, scoring more, heading the ball and better communication. A major setback for the team's game was communication.

The boys looked over the game a while and decided what worked well and what didn't. “We did well working together the second half of the game but not the first half. The first half had little communication or utilization of other teammates,” says UME senior Brian Barker. Since this was the first game the team has played together they can only get better, through practice before the next game. By the end of the season, we are expecting many wins.

The boys opponent was Harmony Dallas. Harmony was “good but not super hard. They were a beatable team” said Brian Barker. Logan Barker said they “were a rough and fundamentally sound team.” This being said the boys, can't wait to beat this team next time!

Though the boys started their season off with a loose, they are now able to learn from their mistakes and do better next time. 4/3/17
