Athletes Struggle to Find Rides

Written by Kimberley Carmen

“It’s so far! I don’t know if my mom can take us to the game today!”

Every season, athletes struggle to find rides to their own games when they have away games. This tremendous struggle is caused by the utter lack of buses for the athletics department.

Home games are easier for both the athletes and their parents. They’re close by and easy to get to. Away games, however, are a different story.

Since, UME does not provide buses for the away games, it’s usually a bit of a problem. “It’s very annoying because most schools have a bus, but ours doesn’t,” says Madeleine Colvard, the Sports Editor of the Talon. The stress of being able to even get to the game really gets to the athletes and families.

Some parents cannot afford to be going back and forth to and from their children’s games. Most kids can already hear their parents exclaim, “Gas is expensive!” Sometimes, athletes aren’t able to find rides and have to skip the game entirely, affecting them and their team.

By gathering funds for a bus, students and parents can avoid the stress of rides to and from away games. The problem of finding rides for the athletes will be solved!

Things To Look At When Buying A New Bus

  1. Maintenance - any on going maintenance/repair costs

  2. Fuel Efficiency

  3. Warranty - lifetime replacement parts

  4. Financing - payment term options
