Students Stay Active During Break

Written by White Chocolate

Breaks from school are for sleeping in, eating lots of food and hanging out. However, this can lead to students spending their days lazing around and getting out of shape. This is an extremely negative thing for those students involved in sports such as soccer, baseball, and track. If the team gets out of shape it can lead to lackadaisical play in games. The best solution is to just stay active over break and not become lazy. Many students on the soccer team are extremely dedicated to staying in shape for the season and ran over the break.

As team captain Kevin Chandlee put it, “Over the break, I spent time going to a track and running laps to stay in shape. That way when we have our first game this Saturday I will be able to bring my best and hopefully help lead the team to a win.”

Hopes are high for all the sports as we head into the final stretch of the school year. Ethan Minter who is team captain of the Varsity Baseball team commented, “Although in baseball you don’t to quite as much running as some other sports, over the break I still got some running in and practiced my swings at a batting cage to stay in shape.”

Commitment to sports is a huge part of overall team success. These students who have worked out over the break and tried their best to stay in shape are leaders that everyone on the team looks up to. Thanks to these student athletes and many others that worked to stay in shape over break, the Varsity sports look as if they will finish the year out in a heated race for playoffs.

Breaks are a great opportunity for students to rest and take some time off of school, however, the students who are athletes as well need to continue to stay in shape and be ready for anything that the other sports teams might throw at them.

How Much Does a Break Affect You?

  • After two weeks you can loose 22-34% of muscle

  • It takes a lot longer to gain muscle than to lose it.
