Coach V: The New Coach in School

School then to college at Howard Payne University. There he received 2 bachelor degrees of arts, in Spanish and in youth ministry. With this, Coach V has become the youth pastor at Grace Temple Baptist Church. He is now in the process of getting his master’s at Southwest Seminary. He is married to  Mrs. Jamie V, who teaches first-grade math and science at UME. He is also the leader of our school’s FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). Having played soccer since his freshman year of high school, Coach V is the perfect fit for UME’s head coach position

Coach V is loved by all of his soccer players. “I love his patience with everyone. He has to work with new players and he treats them with the same patience that he treats experienced players with,” says Lindsay Daugherty. Coach V coaches because he “loves the game”. He believes that “sports are a great avenue to teach character and to shape young men and women to become who they are meant to be”. Coach V has said the best part about coaching is “being able to spread the love of the game to the next generation”.

As the head soccer coach, Coach V has plans for this coming season which consist of pushing the team harder in practice, including more running and more intensity. He also plans on “having the team pushing themselves in practice focusing on every drill in order to improve as individuals and teammates.” He also plans to do more “team building exercises in order for the team to become a tightly knit group.”

What's one funny story about coaching? “Players trying to ‘meg’(when someone kicks the ball between your legs) me any chance they get... even if we are in a huddle discussing tactics and they are behind me while I'm not paying attention.”
