13 Reasons Why is a brand new Netflix show that premiered March 31, 2017. The show came on Netflix with all thirteen episodes, all which are in the first season. The show quickly became a success, already being a famous novel. The show is about teenagers in high school, and brings up a lot of issues that occur in most high schoolers lives.

 

     The show is about a high school boy named Clay, who has just been affected by the loss of his friend and classmate, Hannah Baker. Hannah Baker had committed suicide, so her death affected everyone that knew her. Clay soon receives tapes in the mail, and tries to find a cassette player to be able to listen to them. Once he finds one, he learns that Hannah Baker sent him the tapes. He learns that they are tapes that she sent him before she killed herself. The tapes say that she sent these tapes to everyone that caused her to commit suicide. There were thirteen tapes sent to thirteen people, or thirteen reasons, why she did what she did.

 

   So every episode is about a different tape, or a different person. The show is very suggestive and graphic, so viewers are warned before these certain episodes happen. The series talks about many issues that students deal with every day. It talks about the negatives of social media in schools, rumors that go around school, sexual assault, and betrayal of best friends.

 

The show can become very emotional, since it is very real to what teenage life is really like. Not many shows discuss the terrible thing that is teenage suicide, so it is beneficial to show teens how to deal with this awful issue. Many teens could be thinking about doing this to themselves, or know someone who is thinking about doing it. It is a very important topic that should be talked about more, since it is happening more often.

 

   The cast of 13 Reasons Why is filled with relatively new faces to the film industry. Many of the actors have never been seen by audiences before. That cast consists of Dylan Minnette, Katherine Langford, Kate Walsh, Miles Heizer, and Alisha Boe.  13 Reasons Why has been watched by many just in two weeks, and students hope to see another season in time.
