The online student newspaper of UME Prep

Juniors and seniors are stepping up to the plate by tutoring  the elementary/intermediate scholars at the UME  Duncanville Campus.  After school many upperclassmen students were asked to volunteer to help tutor younger students with math, English, social studies and many more.

Some of the students that go teach are Paula Hernandez, Kainan Joubert , Makaila Johnson, Paula one of the student tutors said," I love to go and teach the kids, and it's not boring at all. It's actually fun to interact and not just learn but to have fun learning”. According to one of the other tutors, "the younger kids can get to know other students older than them and have fun learning and even look up to them and therefore the big kids have to be a good example.”

These high upperclassmen are mentors to the kids and show them how learning can be fun as well as for the high schoolers. However by the upperclassmen volunteering, they also benefit themselves when applying to colleges by demonstrating that they have volunteered to help others in the community. Overall the tutoring and mentoring has benefited both the older and the younger students, and the tutors have done a good thing by teaching and helping the students learn what they did not understand.
