BLOOD DRIVE:

Students Donate for a Cause

Written by Anisah

On Wednesday, January 11th UME Preparatory Academy hosted their first ever Carter Blood Care Drive on the campus parking lot. Although there were not many people who participated in the blood drive, it was a great success! Unfortunately, not everybody was able to donate blood that day, here’s what Heidy Cortez said about her first experience giving blood. “I was a little nervous because it was my first time giving blood, so I didn't really know what to expect. But everything turned out great! It did hurt a little, but I'm glad I did it! It made me feel good about myself and overall it was a really good experience for me and I would definitely do it again!”

UME Preparatory Academy is having, yet again, another blood drive by Carter Bloodcare, making this the school’s  2nd blood drive. When asked if she’s going to participate in the 2nd school blood drive Heidy Cortez responded, “Yes, I am both volunteering for the drive, and am going to help out with the setup.” It seems like Heidy along with everyone else is ready for a second round of donating. With the word spreading around about how well the first drive went, UME is expecting an even greater turnout the next time around.

When asked what advice would she give to someone who is wanting to donate for the first time Heidy said, “ Make sure you eat a full healthy breakfast and bring a photo ID! Don't worry too much about the needle. It's all worth it once it's done!”
