According to History.com, Black History Month is a celebration of achievements by Black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of Black Americans in U.S history. The time to celebrate was brought to us by Carter G. Woodson and other Black activists.

Since 1976,every U.S president has officially made February Black History Month. Black History Month is celebrated throughout the country by different schools, churches, social event leaders and clubs such as the NAACP.

According to a choir teacher in Mansfield TX, "Black History is celebrated all year. You cannot squeeze our accomplishments into 28-29 days. We as the Black community have done more to contribute to our country than you would ever know."

But many still believe setting aside one month for Black History Month is important. One student from UME said, “Black History Month is my favorite month and as I get older, I will continue to celebrate the achievements that my ancestors have completed.”
