The online student newspaper of UME Prep

Recently New Orleans East experienced a tornado touchdown on February 7th that left more than 8,700 people without power. In other parts of Louisiana such as Killian, and Donaldsonville, storms left more damage than expected. The damage continued to roll in through many cities leaving more than 10,300 homes with damage. The damage to these cities had  larger effects than simply the power outages, but also left the city crippled with no groceries, electricity, or even ways to communicate their safety.

Many people quickly went to Facebook to post a status on whether they were safe or not. The photos and shocking videos began flooding timelines  in just minutes after the storm had begun.

Cars were overturned, homes were destroyed, and many families have now been uprooted and expected to find new lives rebuilding after the storm. Louisiana is no stranger to severe weather,  yet every time severe weather hits, the community comes together to rebuild, find hope, and get stronger as a community unit. Through all of the pain that the destruction caused, somehow everyone continues to find love and support through the rough times.
