Juniors Wonder About

The Importance

of Prom Night

Prom is a night full of glitz and glamour; a night high school students dream about every year. The dream can finally be realized for juniors and seniors once prom season comes around; however, is it really worth it to go to prom as a junior?

Juniors and seniors all over the country are preparing for the annual “Junior-Senior Prom’” and every year, the question “Should I go to prom?” arises. While both juniors and seniors are encouraged to go, seniors feel what seems like an obligation to attend prom because it is their last high school dance ever.

“Prom is only worth it if your friends are going,” stated Lauren Horton. After all, what’s the point of going to prom your junior year if none of your friends will be there?

According to CNN Money, in 2013, “families [were expected] to spend $1,139 on prom.” Families will usually spend a pretty penny for the extravagant event, which seems like a waste if this is not their last year in high school.

Girls will typically spend much more money for prom than boys will. The dress, alterations, hair, nails, and a number of other things have to be taken into account, and that’s for girls alone. Boys need tuxedos, and if they have dates, they are in charge of tickets, corsages, transportation, etc.

Prom can be fun and a good experience for both juniors and seniors, but juniors should keep it simple and try to spend as little money as possible, especially if this won’t be their last prom. Once the night is over, all that will matter is all of the fun memories that were shared amongst peers.

While prom is not a once in a lifetime event, it is still a very special night, but it is more special when you wait for your senior year.
